I'm selling a chair online through craigslist. Someone wants to buy it and pay via bank certified cheque. Is that safe or do you think it's a scam? Here's his response to my email.

Should i tell the potential buyer my address and go ahead with this transaction?Someone wants to pay by bank certified check for a chair I'm selling online. Is that safe?
That's a Nigerian scam - and it's so common that I'm surprised you haven't heard of it yet. Someone WILL come get your chair, you WILL receive a FAKE cashier's check. So at the end of it all, you will not have received any money and you will be out your item as well. Do not respond to this scammer.

Also, you may wish to read the disclaimer page on Craigslist. It is meant for local, CASH ONLY, person-to-person transactions. No shipping, no checks, no wire transfers, etc.

If you don't believe me, feel free to proceed with this 'transaction' - I don't care.. Remember this answer when you have no chair to sell and no money for the non-existent chair either.Someone wants to pay by bank certified check for a chair I'm selling online. Is that safe?
