Help with puppy contract?

In a few weeks my dog's litter of puppies will be ready to go to their new homes. Lately I have been hearing lots of news regarding dog fighting and the use of bait dogs. This got me thinking about the possibility of someone taking one of our pups and abusing them. My husband and I discussed having adopters sign an adoption agreement and this is what I have come up with so far. I just would like to know if there is anything else I should add or amend. Thanks

ADOPTER'S AGREEMENT

I am aware of the laws and regulations regarding Pit Bull type dogs in my home area.

I agree that the animal is being adopted for myself and will not be sold, re-homed, or given to another party.

I agree that the animal will not be allowed outdoors without proper supervision. When taking my dog outdoors, they will be under my control or securely contained as defined by the breed selective legislation in my home area.

I agree that this dog is to be a companion animal, not a guard, bait or fight dog. The dog will live inside my home, and is not to be kenneled outdoors.

I agree to care for the animal in a humane manner and be a responsible animal owner. This includes supplying adequate food, water, shelter, attention, and medical care.

I agree that if at any point I can not keep the animal, I will return him/her to ****** without the return of my adoption fee.

I agree that all statements I have made on this form are true. If it is found that any statements I have made on this form are not true the adopted dog can be confiscated. I understand and agree that ************make no guarantees about the animal's temperament and will not hold them responsible for future possible damages or injuries caused by the animal. I give them permission to call my home at any reasonable time to assure that the animal is being properly treated and cared for. I agree to keep them informed of my current home address and phone number.Help with puppy contract?
I am a trainer and the owner of a Pit Bull and that sounds really good, the only thing I would add is making sure they take a training class for socialization and much needed training as soon as they can. Best time to start is 10 weeks old for socialization purposes when they get to be around 6 months it gets harder to socialize because of their prey drive.

P.S. I would also recommend that they get them fixed by 6 months old unless you are sure they would breed responsibly.
The reality is that contract is only a promise and once that pup leaves your posession, you dont know what is going to happen. My suggestion is to not worry about the agreement contract and research your adopters better. Go out and visit their homes, ask questions you want answers to, make sure they meet your standards that way.Help with puppy contract?
It's not just BSL you have to watch out for--most townships have laws about having your dog on a leash. So it needs to say in accordance with local ordinances.

You may want to microchip these dogs before they go home.

-adopted for myself AS A COMPANION ANIMAL (PET)

-You need a spay/ neuter clause that says you can confiscate the dog, without return of adoption fee, if you have received no proof of spay/neuter at X age.

-they also need to supply TRAINING

How are you vetting these homes??Help with puppy contract?
Sounds good! I think you should include in the price (charge more so you're not losing money) that is mandatory they sign up for an obedience class so they pay you the amount of the class, then when the puppy is old enough you contact them, register them, and use the money to pay for the class and ask for proof of completion of the class (like a certificate or whatnot) which keeps the contact in-tact.

As well, you could ask to meet at the peoples homes with the pups to make sure they are clean, respectable people and see they have backyards and stuff like that, so you don't have apartment people trying to buy a pit bull and stuff.

Most puppy contracts do offer the buyer that if the puppy is diagnosed with a genetic disease confirmed by a vet that you will either refund the puppy price, or exchange the puppy. That makes many buyers feel better, so I think you should include that. Make sure you add the line "The pup is guaranteed to be healthy upon release to Buyer to the best of the Sellers knowledge."

I saw on this puppy website a very well written and detailed contract, http://www.angelfire.com/extreme/draggah鈥?/a> , obviously contact them before using it to make sure you have the rights to use it, but it can provide you with some good ideas.

Kudos to you for being proper pet sellers!
