How do I know if my DSLR camera is in it's good performance?

Note, if you don't want me to read my long story you can skip to the last paragraph to see my question =] personally I don't think is that bad. :) ty

Hi guys: well I bought (bid) an used nikon D90 on eBay with a pretty satisfied price. An the seller had an excellent feedback and stated that there is nothin wrong with the camera it's in very good condition with 1100 shutter count.聽

And after I told my dad (he's a prof photographer, btw I bought this camera I just want to learn more) anyways, he didn't like the fact the I bought off from eBay due to the fact that the camera and lens have to go thru a rough transaction by UPS. And you know how ups nowadays they throw boxes like garbage. He told me camera are very sensitive to vibration, sometimes even a bad shake can cause a lot of problems in the near future which will affect the quality of the image... Is he right btw? Well I don't really doubt him, but just asking.

So my question is, now I have the camera and the lens, it looks fine, and the picture quality is superb. But I still want to do a full checkup and make sure there is no damage and what so ever during the transaction. Because I can still get a refund within 7 days according to the seller. Is there a place (company) I can go to do a full check-up???? (reliable of course) (will pay if it costs any).

I live in new York city, zip code 10022 if this helps any!

Thank you so much for your help. Means a lot to me聽How do I know if my DSLR camera is in it's good performance?
Put the camera on auto, go outside in bright daylight, take some shots. If they come out fine, the camera is fine. With respect, your dad is talking crap!
A properly packaged camera can stand a lot of transit abuse.

Borrow a tripod from your dad, shoot a focus test chart. http://focustestchart.com/chart.html

If that turns out ok and you get good exposure on the auto and semi-auto modes I wouldn't worry. How do I know if my DSLR camera is in it's good performance?
I would go to the photographers "candy shop"... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/jsp/are鈥?/a>

It is clear that you have yet to take a class in photography.

All your concerns tell us that you have no experience using a fully adjustable camera.

The D90 is one of the best mid-level cameras made at this time. Any "vibration" that would effect its photos, would effect any dSLR's photos.

If you use VR lenses, blurred images caused by camera movement will be reduced some, but only learning how to control the camera will reduce that.

I would be concerned about buying things from eBay, since unfortunately it has become a dumping ground of damaged or non-working cameras.

Your choice of a D90 is a good one. Where you are buying it makes me wonder. Look instead on craigslist in a city near you (you can personally test it before you buy) or from a reputable used camera store like B%26amp;H Photo or Adorama
Is the camera taking good photos? Do you hear any strange noises while shooting?

About the only thing I would is check the exif data for the shutter count. If that is not there, mine isn't available on exif, you might have a tech verify the shutter count - they have a way of doing this.
