Can someone explain the addresses in the UK? Is there anyway to know what is close to something else by it?

I am trying to find a car rental place close to: 1 Glasshouse Street, Piccadilly Circus, London, W1A 4BZ. Mapquest seems thouroughly confused by this and I have no idea if these numbers really mean anything or are just at Random. Is W1A 4BZ like our zip codes in the U.S.? Is Picadilly just a helpful note of where something is, or is that an actual township or city name? Can someone explain the addresses in the UK? go to www.yell.com and put in car rental and then the post code that you want W1A 4BZ and you should get a whole bunch of car rental places. Can someone explain the addresses in the UK? Is there anyway to know what is close to something else by it?
just look up http://www.easycar.com, thats better and its all online. But just to explain, the W1A is west 1 or west London,

near Theatre land, piccadilly is best reached by London underground. the system in London works like the USA, but obviusly not the same, N1 is north S2 i south, SW is South West.

E is East London.EC is east central London, WC west Central London. Okay ? get a tube train( London underground) map to get around, far easier.
