By mistake I gave her my home address, phone, and name. I didn't give any card info, or social security number. I got a message today from the scammer again and she said she'd be giving me a check in the mail, I'm not stupid to cash it now that I learned my lesson. This is the message she wrote today,

How are you dong today? Thanks for getting back to me promptly and also, i really appreciate your expediency. I have talked to members of my family regarding your position in the house and it all went well.

I am glad to inform you that your first week upfront payment has been mailed out via Fedex with the tracking number: 8758 6229 7811 to be delivered this morning. You can as well have it tracked via www.fedex.com/us to know the delivery status.

You will be receiving a check of $ 2720. out of which you will deduct your pay for the first week upfront payment and you will be using part of it to buy groceries and the rest to keep for us prior to our arrival, you will purchase these groceries on the day of our arrival for you to commence work the next day. Actually our flight will arrive at night so you will be getting the groceries in the morning and making all other preparations. I will also instruct my Realtor to mail the keys of the apartment we found to you including address as soon as the renovation work there has been completed so that you can do all other necessary preparations before we arrive.

Kindly have the check deposited in your account today as it takes 24 hours to be able to withdraw the funds. Do get back to me as soon as you complete the deposit so that you can be fed with more details of what next to be done because you have to get all this shopping before our arrival so that we wont have to start running around when we arrive.

I do appreciate you and hoping for a memorable event you will be showing my son as can't wait to have you around him.

Regards,

Shylla franklin.

I'm really scared and I already told my parents about it. I blocked the lady from emailing me and really worI'm really scared, please help me. I fell for a babysitting scam :(?
Take the whole kit and kaboodle to the police. The more people start to give police the evidence, the more they are able to see how dangerous the scammers are. They are preying on the young, the old, the weak and the poor who have but a few grand left in their savings.

Most just want information on people (their social insurance numbers, their passports, their bank account information and also certificates of any type: so that they can forge.)

I received a certifed cheque and lots of letters which I took to the RCMP, they are now aware of how the Ugandans are getting into this country.
Call the cops, and send email to the email provider. (Yahoo, AOL, whatever)I'm really scared, please help me. I fell for a babysitting scam :(?
Just call your phone co and have them put a block on callI'm really scared, please help me. I fell for a babysitting scam :(?
Send her a note telling her you are not interest and you have taken all communication and all checks, keys whatever to the local police department where she can claim them if she chooses.

then have your parents talk to the local police
Print out the emails and have your parents take you to the local police station to report this scam. Also report it to craigslist.com. Flag that post they wrote looking for a babysitter.

If they mail you a 'check' DO NOT cash it. Bring the check to the police station
Don't be scared, it's easily done...refer this to the police...fact is , if someone is looking for someone to look after their child..you'd expect them to want to meet you in person first...there are a lot of nasty people around, you have to be careful...don't worry about this too much.
Yep, it's a scam. You haven't given any important info yet, so no worries. Just don't deposit the check. They are trying to get your info that way.

Always be wary when someone is KILLING you with details... they are usually a liar, and that is true regardless of who you are dealing with.

Also... if this is exactly the way the message was written, then english is obviously a second language for them from the writing. It's usually foreigners that are trying to pull scams like this, so it's another warning.

Contact the police... but I'm guessing this person isn't even this country, so nothing will be done. At least they can be aware of the scam and email addresses associated with it.

You're fine - no worries. You haven't been scammed yet.
Relax, hon. The scammer is in Nigeria and can't do anything with your name and address.

If you get a check from this person tear it up, as it's fake. Don't worry.
The scam has been around for ages.

Similar ones are the house keeping scam, and the getting packages scam.

You will also see the mystery shopper scam.

^^very popular - any check you get will be fake, and you have to wire money back

STAY AWAY FROM CRAIGSLIST -as another contributor stated once

It is the new nigeria scam central of the internet
